The Jewish Kabbalah is growing in popularity amongst Hollywood’s elite. Stars like Britney Spears, Sandra Bernhard, and Paris Hilton are just a few famous faces known to Kabbalah Centres for spiritual guidance. Believe it or not, the most vocal Kabbalah practitioner in the entertainment industry is pop singer Madonna. Yes, the woman that gave the world “Like A Virgin” loves to spend her spare hours pouring over esoteric texts with a Rabbi!
According to Madonna, everyone can benefit from incorporating the teachings of the Kabbalah into their lives. This ancient collection of mystical Jewish texts offers deep insight into the human condition. Madonna, whose full name is Madonna Louise Ciccone, said she visits the Los Angeles Kabbalah Centre regularly to reaffirm her faith in the Divine and to remove negative blockages from her own life. She told reporters that the Kabbalah is “ancient wisdom that provides practical tools for creating joy and lasting fulfillment.”
In the past, only Jewish scholars over the age of 40 were able to begin studying the Kabbalah. These rabbis had to be well versed in Hebrew, the Talmud, and the Torah. A few of the key texts in the Kabbalah include the Sefer Yetzirah and Zohar and learn more about Kabbalah.
Interestingly, many occultists and religious scholars have noted remarkable similarities between the Kabbalah and other esoteric religious paths. A few religions in the East that have similar wisdom include Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism. This has led some people to claim that the Kabbalah is the “Yoga of the West.”
The first man to share the mystical wisdom of the Kabbalah with non-Orthodox Jews was Rabbi Philip Berg. Rabbi Berg founded the first Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles in 1984. The idea of this centre was to create a space where people of all faiths and ethnicities can deepen their spiritual practice by studying the Kabbalah together. Although Rabbi Berg passed away in 2013, his Kabbalah Centre is still going strong. Indeed, nowadays people can find a Kabbalah Centre in almost every major city in the Western world and more information click here.
While teachers recommend people visiting the Kabbalah Centre have a basic understanding of the Old Testament, it’s not a pre-requisite to join this group. Just a few cities you’ll find a Kabbalah Centre in nowadays include Warsaw, Santiago, London, Dallas, Berlin, Boca Raton and Kabbalah’s Website.
