Broadway: Tony Award and Academy Award Winners Unite in “Widows”

Erivo sets herself up to appear on Broadway in December 2016 as a cast member in the Steven McQueen film ‘Widows.’ Also, among Cynthia Erivo will be fellow Tony Award winner Viola Davis. Davis won a Tony Award in 2010 for her performance in ‘Fences.’ This particular event is an impressive follow-up after Erivo won the Tony Award because of her performance as Celie in ‘The Color Purple.’ Finally, this moment will represent Cynthia Erivo’s debut as an actress in a big movie role.


‘Widows’ the Film


Based on the 1983 British ministries, ‘Widows’ is a big screen hit about a group of feisty females who join together to scheme a vigilant taking; however, their husbands end up taking the hit while ending up dead. Furthermore, the husbands turn out to be a group of armed robbers. Frankly, ‘Widows’, written by ‘Gone Girl’s’ Gillian Flynn, will be featured as a new movie from Oscar – winning filmmaker Steve McQueen aka Steven Rodney.


About ‘Widows’ Film-Maker Steven Rodney

Born in London, Rodney aka McQueen set out to complete his BA in Fine Art – attending Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College, Goldsmiths, University of London Tisch School of the Arts. Rodney is known for his 2013 film, ’12 Yeas a Slave’ which is a historical piece filled with dramatic envy – featured as an adaptation of an 1853 slave. But, his first major film was released in 1993, named ‘Bear…’ As a hit, onscreen, the short-lived film bought Steven Rodney a ticket to an Academy Award, BAFTA Award for Best Film, and Golden Globe Award fro Best Motion Picture (Drama).
