The Philanthropy of Dental Sleep Masters’ Avi Weisfogel

In 2014 Dr. Avi Weisfogel founded Dental Sleep Masters. He has been in the dental industry for several years and this is the latest company he has founded. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Biology from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick and obtained his DDS, Dentistry from the NYU College of Dentistry in 1998.Dr. Avi Weisfogel is dedicated to researching sleep apnea and what role dentistry and physician can play in helping people that suffer from it. Sleep apnea, while it can affect anyone, is most common in those that are obese and/or older.

Sleep apnea is dangerous as when sleeping those that suffer from it do not breathe for long periods of time. This results in a lack of oxygen to the body and the brain in particular which can cause strokes, diseases, mental issues, and safety issues such as work and vehicle accidents. Through Dental Sleep Masters Dr. Weisfogel partners with dentists around the country, helping them to incorporate sleep apnea knowledge into their practices in order to best help their patients suffer from sleep apnea. The dentists that join the program incorporate a sleep study center directly into their practice in order that they can best treat their patients without the need to refer them to another specialist.

In September 2016 Dr. Avi Weisfogel launched a GoFundMe page in support of Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an international nonprofit that sends dentists and physicians around the world in order to surgically repair the cleft lips and/or cleft palates of disadvantaged children. Founded in 1982, Operation Smile has provided these necessary operations to hundreds of thousands of children around the globe in such locations as China, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Bolivia as well as dozens of more countries. Dr. Weisfogel has stated that all children deserve health care regardless of a parents ability to pay for it and as a Dentist the issues of cleft lips and cleft palates are near and dear to his heart.
