Broadway Singer Jennifer Holliday Dropped Out of Inauguration

Jennifer Holliday is a well known broadway singer. She is most notable for her role in the Dreamgirls musical, where she sang ‘And I am Telling You I’m Not Going’. Holliday is additionally a winner of a prestigious Tony award.

In a somewhat shocking move, Jennifer Holliday pulled out of Trump’s inauguration lineup at the last minute. The move was especially shocking based on her defending her initial agreement to sing at the inauguration of the new President of the United States. One of her defenses was that she had largely been a bi-partisan performer. She has sung for Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush in the past.

She wrote a lengthy letter explaining her reason for firmly dropping out of the inauguration ceremony. Her fans are primarily those who fear the new administration for a variety of reasons. They wrote to her telling her they could no longer be a fan of her work if she chose to sing for the inauguration of a man who used hateful rhetoric to win his presidency. His rhetoric and choices during the campaign trail caused her primary fans a great deal of stress and fear at what is to come in the future. Her fans are mainly those of the LGBT community and female American citizens.

In her letter Holliday apologized by saying she was: “uneducated on the issues that affect every American at this crucial time in history and for causing such dismay and heartbreak to my fans.”

She added that: “My only choice must now be to stand with the LGBT Community and to state unequivocally that I WILL NOT PERFORM FOR THE WELCOME CONCERT OR FOR ANY OF THE INAUGURATION FESTIVITIES!”.

The decision by Jennifer Holliday to drop out seems to have proven to be a very smart move on her part. The Daily Beast called the Welcome Concert ‘a total disaster’ and the worst concert that the statue of Abraham Lincoln ever had to witness. Reviewers of the concert stated it simply had no energy and was limp. Hopefully the fans of Jennifer Holliday will be sure to continue to follow her career and support her music after her decision to remain loyal to them. Based on the outpouring of praise and the approval of other citizens, Holliday will likely maintain a strong fan base.
