There are a number of movie roles that simply transcend life in general. Although the list is long, you can definitely add the role of “Batman” to that list. Although many actors have played this challenging role, there is one who would love to play it once again.
Val Kilmer did it once, and he has inspired a lot of controversy because of the role he played. According to Comic Vine, he is probably one of the most underrated Batman actors to have ever played him.
For clarification, it is important to remember that the role of Batman has only been played by a mere six actors throughout the years. The caped crusader has been played by the likes of such diverse figures as Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. All of these men have brought significant contributions to the exploits of the caped crusader on the big screen, but sadly it would appear that the two odd men out are George Clooney and Val Kilmer. These individuals both only played the caped crusader once only.
Kilmer of course presents an interesting case. He actually had the opportunity to play the role of this famed superhero one more time in the film Batman and Robin. Needless to say, he probably turned that role down because of the possibility of some “creative differences” between him and director Joel Schumacher on the film “Batman Forever.” If this had really been the case (and not just a theory) then it is evident that time actually heals all wounds.
For all of the creative differences they might have had in the past, Schumacher has actually publicly referred to Val Kilmer as the “best Batman” on several occasions. Could Kilmer have a chance to be Batman once more? It’s hard to say, but it is a fun thing to speculate on. Kilmer’s current body of work has been straight-to-video efforts, so it would great to see him in theaters once more.
