About Gregory James Aziz and National Steel Car

Gregory James Aziz is the President, CEO and the Chairman of the National steel car which is at the forefront in railroad freight car manufacturing and engineering companies in the world and is located in Hamilton Ontario.

He was born in Ontario on 30th April 1949 Greg and went to Ridley College, and then he majored in economics at University of Western Ontario.


Through joining his family in the wholesale food business, and Affiliated Foods in 1971, the firm grew for 16 years to become a global importer of fresh foods from Europe, Central America and South America with major distribution to all the main fresh food wholesale markets in Eastern Canada and the United states.

After working on various investment banking opportunities in New York back in the early 1990s and late 1980s, Mr. Greg was then able to organize the buying of National Steel Car from Dofasco in 1994, with a sole aim of changing this once great company of Canada into a leading railroad freight vehicle manufacturer in North America.

Emphasizing the strong engineering capabilities of National steel cars, the firm grew its manufacturing capability from about 3500 cars per year at the purchasing time to 12000 cars by the year of 1999. The people who were employed there grew in the same time from almost 600 to approximately 3000.

Currently, thanks to the relentless pursuit of manufacturing and engineering excellence, National steel cars are in the forefront in the industry in new automobile innovation while still building hundreds of new railroad freight automobile in each year.


The National Steel car is the only railroad freight automobile, manufacturing, and engineering company that is certified ISO 9001:2008 in North America. The company has held this honor kind for the past 18 years through various rounds of recertification. The firm has also been highly honored consistently with the TTX SECO greatest quality award since 1996.

The national steel car is highly committed to the Hamilton community and is known to have sponsored Theatre Aquarius, the Salvation Army, the united way, the Hamilton opera and various other local charities. Some employees, both present, and the past, together with their children go to the National Steel Car Christmas Party every year and take part in the major food drive for the local food banks of the company.

Greg together with his wife Irene both are sponsors of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair which is the most prominent agricultural fair in Canada.
